Marine and Coastal Science Program

Marine and Coastal Science (MACS) is an interdisciplinary program at Western Washington University with core and affiliated faculty in units across the university, drawing together the wealth of expertise in multiple departments and at the Shannon Point Marine Center. The mission of MACS is to promote the study of marine systems with an emphasis on placed-based learning, exposure to research, and cohort-based, immersive educational experiences. The goal of the program is to help students develop as confident, thoughtful, ethical scientists ready to address the growing challenge affecting our marine and coastal environments.

**NEW** APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • Current WWU Students apply by 11:59 pm, January 15th, 2021- CLOSED
    Notification of admissions decisions will be made before February 20, 2021.
  • Transfer Students applying for fall admission to WWU, apply to MACS by 11:59pm, March 1st, 2021.
    Notification of admissions decisions will be in early May, 2021.

Note: If students plan to transfer to Western in winter or spring quarter, they can apply to the major in the fall as Western students.
