Supporting MACS Students

Thank you for considering a gift to Western’s Marine and Coastal Science (MACS) program. The new MACS major is a partnership between four academic departments (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, and Environmental Sciences) and the Shannon Point Marine Center. Program participants have a unique opportunity to study marine science as a cohort in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration. Your gift ensures they have the authentic, hands-on opportunities that help them develop as confident, thoughtful, ethical scientists ready to address the growing challenges affecting our marine and coastal environments.

If you have been a donor in the past, thank you for being our partner! If you would like to explore new ways to support the program, please contact us. We look forward to the conversation!

Our Goals

Donations to MACS provide scholarships and tuition assistance, expanded opportunities for research and travel, and increased access for students who may lack financial resources to pursue an education in marine science.

Our Current  Initiative

We are raising scholarship funds to help students cover the cost of their introductory residential experience at the Shannon Point Marine Center. During the 1-2 weeks on site, students are responsible only for their housing and dining costs. However, this can be a barrier to participation for students who lack the financial resources to cover the $225 (one week) or $550 (two weeks) expense.
